Shocking: College Park Mayor Resigns after Being Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

The mayor of College Park, Maryland, Patrick Wojahn, has resigned from his position after being charged with possession of child pornography. Wojahn, who had been in office for six years, announced his resignation in a letter to the city council on Tuesday.

The charges against Wojahn stem from an investigation by the Maryland State Police, who executed a search warrant at his home last month. During the search, they discovered multiple images and videos of child pornography on his computer.

Wojahn has since been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month. In his resignation letter, he apologized for the harm he had caused to his family and the community, and said that he would be seeking professional help.

The news of Wojahn's arrest and resignation has shocked many in the College Park community, who had regarded him as a popular and effective leader. Some have expressed disappointment and sadness, while others have called for him to be held accountable for his actions.

The city council will now begin the process of appointing a new mayor to serve out the remainder of Wojahn's term. In the meantime, the council's president, Denise Mitchell, will assume the role of acting mayor.
